June 21, 2025
9:00 AM- 4:00 PM
CE’s through NBCC: 6
In person, location TBD
Being a therapist during such times of global discontent can be deeply challenging. Freud was developing theories of the psyche during Holocaust times. Freud theorized a great deal about the civilized human and the inherent limits on the human psyche to remain civilized.
In this course we will review the book “Civilization And Its Discontents” by Freud and discuss ways in which psychoanalytic practitioners play a role in having a more civilized world. We will also explore ways to hold many different viewpoints in mind while treating diverse clients with sometimes extremely diverse perspectives. Specifically, we will explore ways to join with clients when their viewpoints differ from our own while maintaining our own sense of personal integrity and value set.
